Dirty Dancing

Anyway, enough is enough, here is my super duper late late late to the max review of the movie Dirty Dancing.

Ehem!!!, call it whatever you want but I call it “Simply Brilliant” it’s not the kind of movie that your are hoping it to be, from the title itself down to the story line, all the while since I was a kid I thought it’s as dirty as the title, but I was wrong, that was just the title of the movie, it did not show any nudity or exploitations of any individual. I also thought that the movie was about a competitions or something like that but I was disappointed again, it was simply a feel good romance movie set in the summer of 1960’s.

The movie is about Baby Houseman played by Jennifer Grey and her family spending their summer in a camp where he met the dance instructor named Johnny Castle played by the late Patrick Swayze, she had developed an infatuations to Johnny when she saw him dancing in the dance floor, she lies to her father to get money to pay for an illegal abortion for Johnny's dance partner and agreed to fill in as replacement for Johnny’s dance partner so that Johnny could perform in Sheldrake, a nearby resort where Johnny and his partner perform annually. The upcoming show requires Johnny to train Baby to become a better dancer and learn the required routine. As they working on to master the dance routine that Baby needs, they fell in love with each other and these where the romance begin, Ehem, I almost forgot this is a movie review and not spoiling things out, eheheheh.. so I must stop here.

Ok my review.

The movie is as simple as its production but the outcome is unexpectedly larger than life accomplishment considering the movie has no major stars (except Broadway legend Jerry Orbach in a supporting role as the father of Baby Houseman), of course Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey was still star in the process by that time.

I really like the scene at the Sheldrake where they first danced at the stage, baby really looks nervous at that time and as they came closer to do the lifting part, baby did not pursue on jumping over Johnny, instead she just danced some comic style, the people like it, and I think it’s cute.

There is a lot of memorable moments in the film, like the laugh of Jennifer Grey, it’s really like genuine and pure, most specially the scene where Patrick Swayze is standing at her back and they are practicing in their opening spiel or moves of their dance, as Patrick tried to touch her arms down to her under arms, Jennifer laugh out loud which would cause a destructions.

The scene from the forest where in Patrick is teaching Jennifer how to balance, it really gives the movie some originality, I remember Daniel Son doing the Karate Kid Signature Moves, it’s one of the best and for this movie, they can claim it to be their own.

And above all, I really like the last dance, it is actually the high lights of the film, this is where the soundtrack is usually played, as well as where everything is fall together to the right places, from realizations down to acceptance. I really like the last dance, most especially when Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze finally do the lifting; I wanna call it the airplane moves.

for Patrick Swayze.
